I have just read The human face of karate by Kaicho Tadashi Nakamura once again. It is a very important book for all Kyokushin people, if they really care about their own tradition, history and values of karate.
This book is the biography of one of the pillars, one of the most important people of formative years for Kyokushin, the person with great, both karate and life, knowledge, skills and experience. It is also the big part of Kyokushinkai history. And at the end, the autor gives the fundamentals of his Seido Karate system. This book is not a karate manual. But I found it fundamental because the ideas it contains. It seems to be that karate without ideas, right mental attitude, simple values we live in our everyday life is only primitive fighting or just physical activity.
I am almost sure that a lot of Kyokushin short sighted, fundamental thinking people don't like this book. For many of them it is just destroying of Sosai Mas Oyama image, killing the myths and the legend of Oyama and so on.
Personally, I don't need to feed myself with some jokes, myths, story tales to build my strong motivation to practice karate. I need the truth, even it hurts my feelings, destroys the perfect image of invincible warrior I had from the past. I am adult and matured enough to face the truth and bring it on. Knowing the mistakes and weaknesses I can avoid or overcome them.
